Person Centred Approaches Feature

Why do I need person centred approaches training?

In line with the ‘Valuing People’, the ‘Putting People First’ and most recent ‘Valuing People Now’ papers, both day and residential services are taking a more person centred approach. These papers are part of the government's "shared vision and commitment to the transformation of Adult Social Care". "Older people, disabled people and people with mental health problems demand equality of citizenship in every respect in their lives, from housing to employment to leisure." The focus is on giving an individual control over their life and giving them a voice. The best way to achieve this is to work in a person centred way. However, the 'Valuing People Now' paper raised the issue that: "Lots of people do not have a person centred plan. Not every organisation is doing person centred planning properly." So it is important that it is done in the correct way, and Circles Network provides expert teaching in the process.

What sets our Person Centred Approaches and Life Coaching course apart from others?

Circles Network has 14 years experience of working in this way. Indeed, it was the CEO, Mandy Neville who brought circles of support and other person centred approaches to UK almost 20 years ago. The process of person centred approaches is alive and active, always ensuring the focus person is central and in control. It is flexible, setting no limits to the person’s wants, needs and dreams for their life. We take this process into our training. Not only were we one of the first organisations to bring over the ideas of circles of support and person centred approaches into the UK in 1994, but our work still evolves. One of the most common feedbacks we get is that our training is fresh and current as we are still working with thousands of individuals across the UK; so we practice what we preach. This has ensured our training has evolved over time.

We recommend the six day course, as we feel this is the best way to take everything on board; this is usually spread out into two day modules, a month apart. This ensures that participants are able to take away what they have learned, put into practice and feedback. Our trainers are always ready and willing to offer feedback, support and assistance.

Many of our trainers have lived experience of disability and/or disadvantage, and of using services (successfully or otherwise). Additionally, our trainers work directly with individuals and have applied the tools on themselves to better their own lives.

As Circles Network is a not for profit organisation all of the fees for training are there firstly to cover the costs of the excellent materials and knowledge that participants receive, but then any surplus we make is used directly in support of disabled and/or disadvantaged people and towards our mission to build inclusive communities across the UK.

Our person centred approaches courses are very flexible, so they fit around you, the individual. The best course is obviously the six day, but we do also offer a one day introduction and a four day course. On any of our person centred approaches courses, you may attend all of the days or any individuals day(s) that you choose. Furthermore, if you are purchasing group training you can mould a day to suit your needs.
