Providing a range of support for disabled parents The Family Empowerment Project is a unique individualised service run by Circles Network that offers support, educational packages and assessments for disabled parents. Our specialist knowledge of working with disabled parents range from supporting individuals who have learning difficulties, physical difficulties or mental health issues. The service works with parents who are experiencing difficulties in parenting their children, enabling them to recognise the difficulties they face and facilitate in helping them to overcome these issues. The Family Empowerment Project is a flexible service, which is needs based, and delivered in the home or local community, The project itself is independent of statutory organisations, which enable us to build a relationship with a family which is based on trust, reliability, and openness which has been proved to be the most effective means of providing personal support of parents in these situations. We can provide comprehensive court appointed assessments, where we will focus on the parents ability to provide ‘good enough’ parenting and deliver our views on parents current skills, opportunities for change, whether parents will be able to sustain the change in the future and avenues of support that can be built into the family’s life. Alongside this work we also offer educational packages of support, where we work in unique and creative ways, supporting parents to learn a range of parenting skills which are tailored to their needs in formats which support their learning styles. The Family Empowerment Project also supports families with direct support packages. These packages can range from short-term intensive packages dealing with issues that have been highlighted as concerns, to long-term packages where we support families on a range of everyday issues they face with their parenting. The flexible approach of the service also enables us to work with families at times where traditional services may not be able to offer support. Weekend and evening work, as well as Bank Holiday are all times where we can offer support to families. Alongside this, the Family Empowerment Project also provides flexible contact supervision support, where we can provide specialist trained staff to supervise family contact sessions, whether is be at a statutory services venue, in the family home or at a local community venue. Our staff are committed to the principles of adopting person centred strategies within a social model perspective. Whilst working to the Child Assessment Framework and recognising that the child is at the centre of the process, we are also aware of the needs of the whole family and the distress and long term effects it can cause for child and parents when a child is removed from the family home. Therefore our values are that wherever possible families should be supported to stay together. Our specialist areas of knowledge of working with disabled parents and our style of adapting our approach to work with parents individualised needs enables us to offer the best service for all the members of the family unit.
