How we got started………..

In the year 2000 the CREDO Project (Creating Real and Equal Development Opportunities) was originally set up in Northern Ireland to support young people with profound and complex impairments in planning and looking forward to adult life.

The three year project, which was funded by the Big Lottery, empowered teenagers by ensuring that they are always the focus person and in control of the planning process.

We soon discovered that many disabled people of all ages were interested in our approach were asking us to support them.

What is different about our approach?

  • All our work is underpinned by a strong values base. We believe that each individual has the right to dream about, plan and create a desirable future.

  • Through our well developed approach we promote:

  • Social inclusion in ordinary community settings.

  • Opportunities for people to develop natural friendships and relationships.

  • Chances for people to learn and develop their skills.

  • Attitudes that value and celebrate difference.

  • Communication through the widest and most creative means.

  • The development of the whole person, taking into consideration health, relationships, home life, activities, purpose, risk, learning and creative expression.

Since 2000 we have had many successes and evidence of positive change in peoples lives and our work has developed into new areas.

Current work includes:

Transitional planning for disabled teenagers in the Sperrin Lakeland H&SS Trust area.

Each year the Sperrin Lakeland Health and social services Trust  are commissioning a number of person centred plans to be developed for young disabled people who are looking beyond their life at school and starting to think about adult life.
