Description of Role

This is a temporary role until 31 December 2017, which may be extended for up to two years.

Newport Alternative Day Project

We provide alternative, person centred day support, to people with learning difficulties.

Essentially this role is about:

  • Getting to know the people we support in-depth in order to co-produce an ongoing programme of activities and events aimed at promoting independence and social engagement.
     
  • Ensuring everyone has personalised involvement that suits their needs whilst facilitating involvement in the local community.
     
  • Supporting the ongoing development of Circles Network, increasing networks, disseminating good practice and creating growth.
     
  • Leading a team of Facilitators and volunteers to work directly with disabled people, whilst liaising with families, friends and professional practitioners across the County of Newport. 
     
  • Promoting and market the project throughout Newport and to monitor and evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of activities in reaching targets.
     
  • Supporting, with specific guidelines for each person, based on their individualised plan for a positive future, their interests, preferences and needs. Ensuring safeguarding is paramount at all times.
     
  • Ensuring that the ethos of the organisation and its values and beliefs are upheld at all times.

We are looking for:

  • A real 'people person' with a flair for making things happen, you will have a warm, empathetic personality - and be creative, inspiring, and organised.  A genuine enthusiasm for the people we support is essential.
     
  • Have a degree level or equivalent qualification in nursing, social work, teaching or similar.
     
  • Experience of managing teams (at least one year).
     
  • Experience of working closely with disabled people,including people with learning difficulties and/or mental health issues.
     
  • A flexible, reliable and responsible person who can work consistently to support individuals well.  
     
  • Experience in supporting others to learn and to learn to change.
