Life Story: George's Story

George moved to Edinburgh from Dundee to take up a very good job opportunity. A few years later he found himself unemployed and diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

With family still in Dundee, George felt that he should return home and had been apprehended a number of times by police as he tried desperately, despite his confusion, to return there. Our advocate found George trapped on a hospital ward. Janine worked to explore possible avenues with the nursing staff, the social services departments for both cities and his Mental Health Officer, all at George’s request.

Eventually a plan came to fruition to be able to find a way to safely transfer George to a home in Dundee where he could be supported and where he could be in contact with his sister. His life has been enriched with close family contact and an opportunity to see more of his nephews and nieces and their young families. .
