Peterborough Move to the Music

Published Date:13/09/2012

Through Peterborough's Short Breaks agenda, Circles Network, together with two independent dance artists and the Key Theatre, ran a three day inclusive movement and dance workshop in August. Ten young people with and without learning difficulties came together to form a unique company over the three days.

Each person brought their own uniqueness and presence to a beautifully choreographed final show that took place at the end of the three days. This show was watched by family members and carers and interested others from the dance and performing arts community.

This was an amazing three days that we are now looking to repeat with support from Children's Services.

Comments from young people included:

"I liked working with professionals","everyone is equal","everyone helps each other","the group became comfortable and bonded with each other quickly" and "thank you very much for the past few days, it has been an amazing experience and I have loved every second!"

 Comments from parents included:

"The  three day Circles Network Music & Movement Group has not only reset the bar to a much higher level, but has clearly delivered too. We know this, not just from yesterday's amazing performance, but also from the lively & enthusiastic disposition manifest in our daughter after each session"" We were very impressed by the quality of the presentation on Thursday afternoon and recognize the effort made by Kate and the team to develop dancing/performing skills in the young people. We also appreciate that the young people had worked incredibly hard to learn moves and remember when and where to perform them. It was inspirational to see them achieving such success particularly as the Paralympic Games are just starting in London"
