Person Centred Planning Tools

These tools and techniques are used throughout our work, and are mentioned in many of the project reports. The demand from other organisations for training and consultancy from Circles Network in the implementation of these tools is considerable, in particular in services for people with learning difficulties. We are engaged in training staff throughout all levels of organisation, in a number of areas in Scotland and England and have smaller projects in Ireland and Wales.

Our diverse team which includes members who have personal experience of social exclusion and discrimination has been a unique selling point for this work. In addition, our creativity and versatility set us apart as people who have learnt to use a range of learning techniques to facilitate changes in approach and attitude.

The people with whom we consult, to check out our quality and ensure continued credibility, include those of us involved in using the tools. The first test is always to see if we can make a difference in our own lives and in the lives of people we love.

In the last year we have been inspired not only through the individuals and families involved but also by two toy inventors from the US, Charlie and Marie Girsch, who have shown us new dimensions of creativity which are now embedded in our person-centred plans.

In turn, we are consulted to disseminate our own widespread learning. These tools can be used by anyone provided they are used within a framework of equality based on the social model. It is important that any facilitator has access to comprehensive training in this powerful way of supporting positive change.
