Our work in the South East is very well established with a central administrative base in Burgess Hill and extensive links throughout East and West Sussex, and Surrey. We have also created a huge new project in London and, following the success of our East Sussex Direct Payments Project, we are planning a project to encourage social activity in East Sussex. In addition, we staged a major Festival of Inclusion in July 2006 in Horsham Park which provided a weekend of fun, music, dance, arts and crafts, poetry, sport, drama, films and children's activities.

Projects

West Sussex Circles Project - supporting people with learning difficulties in West Sussex to develop Circles of Support.

In Control Project - researching into ways of enabling people to use self-directed support.

Wealden Social Opportunities Group - creating opportunities to develop friendships and Inclusion in the Wealden area of East Sussex.

Surrey Circles Project - creating opportunities with adults with learning difficulties in Surrey to develop friendships.

Communication in Action (CIA) Project - supporting people who have profound and multiple learning disabilities in the North West Surrey area to develop friendships.

Empowerment to Employment - enabling disabled people in Central London to access a range of courses designed to increase their options for employment.

Saturday Circles - Saturday Circles meet every other Saturday.  There are three groups in Uckfield, Hailsham and Eastbourne.

The group have an emphasis on personal development, developing skills for adult life, fun and friendship.  We offer each member of the group an opportunity for them to put together a person centred plan.  This plan will enable people to identify their gifts and skills and what their hopes and dreams are for the future.  It is our aim that these hopes and dreams can be developed in the activities that the group organise.

We encourage the group to make their own decisions and be run by the membership. We hope this will enable the group to develop confidence and an understanding about rights and responsibilities.

We enable the group to take part in activities which will help them feel more confident in the community, experience new things and develop skills and talents.

These groups are funded by the Carers Development grant.  The groups are for people aged between 19 and 30 who live with a carer.

Training

Across the South East we develop links with voluntary organisations, people with learning difficulties, parents and carers, practitioners and professionals to deliver the message that Person Centred Planning and Circles of Support is now the way forward for people with learning difficulties. Through our training and information events we enable people to understand the concept of Person Centred Planning, empower them by teaching Person Centred Planning tools, and showing how it can enable people to have an inclusive role within their community through making choices and decisions that are right for them.

All our training is delivered through Circles Network's Academy for Inspiring Inclusion. Please see the Training Prospectus for details of a course near you.

Events

We have regular events, such as bowling, parties, Person Centred Planning workshops, festivals, picnics and many more. If you would like to be informed about upcoming events in the region by adding your contact details to our database, then please let us know.

Volunteering

Although we have a small team of paid staff, all the work we do would not be possible without the valued and much appreciated support of volunteers. We already have a strong group of volunteers working together with the South East regional team, offering their skills and interests to help with administration, business contacts, mailings, fundraising, information and communications technologies, proof reading, creative design, events, and more. However, as our work develops and grows, we are continually requiring additional individuals with valuable skills to welcome into our organisation and join our team.

If you are interested in joining us as a volunteer, please contact us at our regional office.

Phone recycling

If you have an old phone, you can recycle it on behalf of Circles Network. We can collect phones from East and West Sussex and Brighton and Hove. We can raise £3 per phone with your help!
